While Warmshowers.org strives to maintain a safe community, security incidents may occur. You must exercise independent judgment and establish your own criteria for interacting with other users.

You acknowledge and agree that you are solely responsible for exercising reasonable judgment and caution in all interactions with other users, whether as a host or guest. You assume all risks associated with such interactions, including but not limited to risks of personal injury, property damage, theft, or other harm.

The following guidelines are provided for informational purposes only and do not constitute professional security advice. You should not rely solely on these guidelines for your safety:

• You acknowledge and agree that you are solely and exclusively responsible for your own personal safety and security, both as a traveler and as a host. Warmshowers.org has no duty to protect you, screen users, verify user information, or monitor user conduct. You must exercise independent judgment in all decisions related to hosting or staying with other users.
• You are never under any obligation to let a Warmshowers.org user into your home if you feel uncomfortable. Sometimes it may be the context of their initial email requesting hospitality, or it may be that they have written very little about themselves in their account. You acknowledge that your safety and that of your family is your sole responsibility and must be your primary consideration in all decisions.
• You have no obligation to host any user who arrives without prior arrangement. You may decline to host any user at any time for any reason.
• You may review other users’ profiles, websites, and recommendations, but you acknowledge that Warmshowers.org does not verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of any user-provided information, recommendations, or references. You should not rely solely on profile information or recommendations in making safety decisions. All information is provided “as is” without any warranty of accuracy or completeness.
• You are not required to provide detailed personal contact information in your public profile. You may choose what information to share, but you acknowledge that sharing personal information (such as your home address or phone number) is done at your own risk. Warmshowers.org is not responsible for any misuse of information you choose to share, and you release Warmshowers.org from any liability related to privacy or security issues arising from your disclosure of personal information. You can exchange this information with prospective Hosts after you have established a rapport and feel comfortable with them. If you do not list your street address, please use the “set map location” tab to set your location on the map so it’s at least near your home. That way, cyclists will know whether you’re actually on their route.
• You may establish your own criteria for hosting guests and communicate these in your profile. However, you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for ensuring your hosting criteria comply with all applicable anti-discrimination laws. Warmshowers.org does not endorse or approve any particular hosting criteria and is not responsible for any discriminatory practices by users. Some users establish criteria such as requiring recommendations or references before hosting. Feel free to write things like this into your account.

If you have agreed to host another Warmshowers.org user, you may wish to take additional safety precautions such as inviting a friend or neighbor to be present, meeting in a public location first, or informing others of your plans. You are solely responsible for implementing whatever safety measures you deem appropriate. Warmshowers.org makes no representations that any particular safety measures are adequate or effective.
