COMMUNITY
If you’ve hosted a guest, or been hosted yourself, it is expected that you will leave feedback on the user’s profile to share your experience. Feedback is a vital part of informing hosts and guests of the experiences others have enjoyed with an individual, and it should always be factually accurate and honest.
Yes — all feedback and ratings are important. Our rating system runs from 1 star (below expectations) through to 5 stars (a wonderful experience), with several options in between. Comments alongside your star rating are highly appreciated. Positive feedback is fantastic, and if your experience fell short of expectations, please consider factors like unexpected changes, miscommunication, or cultural differences before rating. If you were genuinely dissatisfied, feel free to express this respectfully. All feedback must remain respectful and avoid disparaging remarks or swearing — accounts may be cancelled for feedback containing personal attacks. Code of Conduct
Your safety and well-being are important to us. If you’ve had a safety issue or need to report a concern about another user, you can file a complaint at www.Warmshowers.org/contact. Please provide as much detail as possible about the issue, including any relevant messages or circumstances. The Warmshowers team will review the situation and take appropriate action where needed. → Link to Terms of Use

Warmshowers requires new users to pay a one-off registration fee of $30 USD, which goes towards the cost of operating the Warmshowers platform. The fee was introduced for new users to help ensure that people joining the community are committed to both touring and hosting. Once you’ve paid, you can use the website or the app at no further charge as a host — managing your profile, the type of accommodation you can offer, and responding to hosting requests from Warmshowers cycle tourists. If you decide to tour yourself in future, you can use the website for free to find and arrange accommodation with other hosts, or purchase a subscription for the Warmshowers app to do the same on your phone
There is a one-time registration fee of $30 USD to join Warmshowers, which goes towards the cost of operating the platform. Beyond that, hospitality between members is free.
If you don’t have a credit card, you can download the Warmshowers app for your mobile device from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and register through the app — payment can then be made via your app store account. If that isn’t an option for you, contact support for assistance.
Start by resetting your password using the Password Recovery link at the bottom of the website homepage. Make sure you’re using the same email address you used when you created your account. If that doesn’t resolve it, go to Contact and report the issue with as much detail as possible.

HOSTING
Warmshowers is built on reciprocity, but hosting is not mandatory. Many members both host and travel, while others participate in one way depending on their situation. You can update your availability or decline requests at any time — the platform is designed to give you full control over when and how you host.

Yes — hosts offer a wide range of setups, from spare rooms to couches or even a place to pitch a tent. What matters most is being clear about what you can offer so guests know what to expect.
Review each guest’s profile, message, and travel plans. A complete profile, clear communication, and alignment with your availability and preferences can help you decide confidently.
You can decline any request. It’s best to respond promptly and politely so the cyclist has time to make other arrangements.
You can update your availability at any time. If something changes after accepting a request, communicate as early as possible so the guest can adjust their plans.
No — what you offer is entirely up to you. Some hosts provide meals or additional support, while others offer only a place to sleep. Guests will look to your profile for guidance.
No. Warmshowers is founded on the principle of reciprocity — hosts offer what they can, in the expectation that when they tour themselves, they’ll be able to enjoy the hospitality of other Warmshowers hosts. We do not allow hosts to charge their guests, and we remove hosts who are found to be doing so. Terms of Use
Cyclists looking for accommodation will contact you by sending a hosting request. This will appear in your messages inbox and as an email notification to the email address associated with your profile. If you’re using the Warmshowers app, you’ll also get a notification directly to your device telling you you have a new message. If you’re not receiving email notifications, check your junk and spam folders — you may need to whitelist our email account, wsl@warmshowers.org. Keeping notifications enabled in the app helps you respond in a timely way.
If something unexpected comes up, let your guest know as soon as possible. Early communication gives them time to adjust and find alternative accommodation if needed.
Delays can happen while traveling. Staying in touch and setting expectations ahead of time helps manage timing and avoids disruption to your schedule. Clear communication is key.
TOURING
After you have created your Warmshowers account, you can search by host name (if you know who you’re looking for) or by location — country, town, province, etc. — and then go to the selected host’s profile to request a stay. Take time to read each profile carefully: it shares details about what they offer, their availability, and any special requests or preferences. If the map shows clusters, zoom in; the drop-down search menu will also let you see hosts in that area. Once you’ve found someone who aligns with your route and expectations, use the contact button on their profile to send a message.
Warmshowers is a global community with hosts in more than 160 countries — from big cities to remote villages. Availability varies by region, but you’ll find opportunities across many countries and routes. Search the map to see where your next adventure could take you.
Warmshowers is an organisation of touring cyclists and community members who provide hosting — accommodation and use of amenities — to touring cyclists. Hosts will expect that you are cycle-touring, so it is not appropriate to use the Warmshowers hosting community when you’re travelling by other means.
Most stays are short — typically one night, sometimes two. Hosts are offering space within their daily lives, so shorter visits tend to work best unless something else is agreed in advance.
Plans on the road can shift. If they do, let your host know as early as possible. Clear communication helps avoid inconvenience and keeps the experience positive for everyone.
Most touring cyclists need only the basics: a place to sleep, a shower, access to water, and somewhere safe to put their bike. Many hosts offer more, but expectations are simple and flexible
Warmshowers is built on trust, communication, and community accountability. Profiles, references, and reviews help you make informed decisions, and most interactions are positive, respectful, and mutually supportive. Personal Safety Statement
Yes — and in fact, it’s expected. If you’ve been hosted (or have hosted a cyclist yourself), you should leave feedback on the user’s profile to share your experience. Feedback is a vital part of informing future hosts and guests of the experiences others have had with an individual, and it should always be factually accurate and honest. It also helps keep the network transparent and reliable.

Yes — you can log in to your account across multiple devices using the same credentials, and you can use the Warmshowers app on multiple devices in Host Only mode without requiring a subscription for each device. Your app subscription is managed and renewed by the App Store you purchased it from (Google Play for Android devices and the Apple App Store for iOS devices). In order to access your Warmshowers account in “Touring mode” to find hosts, your app needs to be able to verify your subscription with the app store. This means your new device needs to be logged into the appropriate app store with the account used to purchase the subscription. It is not currently possible to use a subscription purchased on an Android device on an Apple device, or vice versa.
The app is normally available on a subscription basis, which you can choose to pay either monthly or annually. If you joined Warmshowers more than a month ago, your free trial period for the app has now ended, and to use the app as a cyclist you need to choose a subscription. You can still access Warmshowers for free via the website, or use the app for free in Host Only mode to manage incoming hosting requests. All revenue from the app goes to fund support and further development of both the app and the website.
Our mobile app has a free Host-Only mode that lets you respond to messages and hosting requests without purchasing an app subscription. Download the app from the app store and tap “Continue as a Host” on the Purchase Subscription pop-up. Note: you must be a paid Warmshowers user to access the free Host-Only app mode.
Your app subscription is managed and renewed by the app store you purchased it from (Google Play for Android, Apple App Store for iOS), so you’ll need to cancel through your device’s app store account. On iOS, go to Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions, tap the Warmshowers subscription, and cancel from there. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon, choose Payment and subscriptions › Subscriptions, then select Warmshowers and cancel. Alternatively, use the “Manage Subscription” option from the menu within the Warmshowers app — it will take you to the right place on your device.
